Arthritis

Arthritis is pain, stiffness, loss of range of motion and often bony changes that occur in a joint. All joints are subject to arthritis. Some joints are replaced due to the amount of damage that has occurred in a joint, but not all joints are replaceable. Spinal joints and fingers are rarely replaced and hips and knees are commonly surgically repaired.

There are several types of arthritis. Osteoarthritis can vary from mild to severe and comes from wear and tear, old injuries, postural strain and inflammation. Rheumatoid and other inflammatory arthritis’s tend to be more painful and more damaging and have a genetic origin. Both types can be treated with chiropractic care. Techniques may vary depending on the severity of the condition.

Arthritis is common and one of the main reasons x-rays can be important in an evaluation. It can be a complicating feature or risk factor. Considering the severity of arthritis is often a predictor in treatment and recovery time. It also responds well to diet and lifestyle changes.
